Prepare Soil

Tomatoes grow well in fertile loam soil. They also grow in sandy loam or clay loam soil. So, you have to prepare fertile loam soil to grow tomatoes from seeds. In this case, you will take 40% garden soil, 20% cow dung, 20% compost and 20% white sand. Then mix them well. Your fertile loam soil is ready to grow tomatoes.

Transplant Seedlings

Take a pot.  Make a hole of two inches. Then take a tomato seedling. Keep the roots of the seedling in the hole and cover the roots with soil. In this way, you will plant all the seedlings. Then water them properly. Finally, keep the pots in a shady palace for 3 to 4 days. Then keep them in direct sunlight. 

Care for Tomato Plants

  • Water the tomato plants properly every afternoon.
  • Clean the weeds occasionally. 
  • Apply organic liquid fertilizer to the tomato plants every 15 days. 
  • Prune unnecessary or dry branches.  
  • Bury a stick in each pot and tie the tomato plant with rope to the stick.

Control Diseases and Insects of Tomato Plants

Leaf curl, blight and fusarium are the main diseases of tomato plants. And, whiteflies, aphids and hornworms are the main culprits for them. To control these problems, remove infected tomato plants and apply insecticidal soap or neem oil once a week.

Harvest Tomatoes

When tomatoes are bright in color and have slight softness they are fully ripe. At this time harvest them. For harvesting, take clean and sharp scissors or pruning shears and cut the fruit from the vine keeping a small portion of the stem. You will harvest tomatoes in the morning.

Store Tomatoes
